In YRP’s efforts to further engage with the Youth in York Region, YRP in Partnership with their Police Community Advisory Council (PCAC) have put together some youth initiatives. The Youth initiatives are designed to provide a safe space and educated Youth on concepts of Human Rights, Social Justice and Inclusion but also to allow YRP to really get to know the youth of this region. A Youth Engagement Series has also been created. This series is youth led and have provided youth, from all intersections in life, the opportunities to have serious and informative conversations with members of YRP.

1)3rd Annual “Human Rights and Social Justice Poster Contest -Friday, August 27, 2021
Please Share with Youth grades 7-12. 
The York Regional Police/Community Advisory Council will be launching their 3rd Annual York Regional Police “Human Rights and Social Justice Poster Contest. The theme of the event is “Unity: Together We Are More”.
One winner from each grade (Gr 7-12) will receive a $200 cash prize. The winners will be recognized at the York Regional Police International Human Rights Day Celebration on Thursday, December 9, 2021.  .

2) Third Annual Achievement Awards – Friday, August 27, 2021
We are pleased to announced York Regional Police in partnership with its Police Community Advisory Council is hosting their Third Annual Achievement Awards to recognize students who have promoted Human Rights and Social justice within their school and community. 
The Award recipients will be recognized at the York Regional Police International Human Rights Day Event on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

12 students living in York Region or attending a secondary school in York Region will be awarded $500 each for their post-secondary education.

3) YRP Youth Engagement Series: Session #2 – Protect the Village –  Wednesday, Aug 18th, 2021
YRP/PCAC has created a Youth led Youth Engagement Series which is an opportunity for YRP to provide a safe space for youth from various intersections. This series will give youth the chance to share their opinions, ideas, and ask questions of the YRP about current relevant topics in their communities.  The Series are in partnership with 360Kids, YRCAS, BYR Youth, Youth Speaks, YRP CSV.

Session #2 of the YRP Youth Engagement Series is called Protect the Village. This event is for the youth of York Region and their families to understand their Rights and develop safe ways to handle interactions with the police and to positively progress their community relationship with law enforcement.The second part of the event is the 360°kids Open Mic Night event: 360°kids is holding a monthly Open Mic Night and this month’s event will be partnered with the YRP! Artistic freedom welcome. No hate speech. All talent is encouraged on any platform : music, spoken word, comedy, dance, and much more!

NOTE : THE OPEN MIC WILL BEGIN AT 3PM. YOU MAY CHOOSE TO SIGN UP FOR EITHER EVENT OR BOTH EVENTS IN THE TICKET OPTIONS******The event will be held at the Community Safety Village as an in person event
